WISE COUNTY, Va. — The Union High School community is grappling with shock and sadness after the sudden disappearance of head football coach Travis Turner, who was officially listed as a missing person by Virginia State Police on Sunday, November 23, 2025
Authorities say Turner was last seen on November 20 at his residence. When officers arrived to investigate a complaint that evening, he was no longer there. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and glasses. Turner is described as being over six feet tall, weighing approximately 260 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes
.
His absence was felt deeply over the weekend, as he was not present for Union High’s playoff game on Saturday — a game the team won, continuing their undefeated season. Wise County Schools confirmed that a staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an external agency reviews an allegation connected to the situation
Community Voices
Students, parents, and colleagues have spoken out about the impact of Turner’s disappearance:
“Coach Turner believed in us when no one else did. He taught us to fight hard, but also to care for each other,” said senior quarterback James Miller. “We played Saturday with him in our hearts.”
“He’s more than a coach — he’s a mentor, a father figure to many of these boys,” shared parent Angela Robinson. “We’re praying for his safe return and for strength for his family.”
Assistant Coach Daniel Hayes added, “This season was about more than wins. It was about building character. Coach Turner set that tone, and we’re determined to honor it.”

Our thoughts are with Coach Turner’s family, his players, and the Union High School community during this difficult time.
