Current/Recent Campaign (as reported in news coverage)
Now through January 4 — statewide stepped‑up patrols and checkpoints for the holiday season.
Official GHSP Planning Calendar
December 16, 2024 – January 5, 2025 — Holiday “Booze It & Lose It” campaign window listed in the official NCDOT GHSP calendar.
Both sets of dates align with the same enforcement period: mid‑December through the first week of January, covering Christmas and New Year’s.
Why It Exists
The holiday season is one of the most dangerous times of year for impaired‑driving crashes. Officials emphasize that the campaign is designed to save lives by increasing visibility and enforcement when alcohol‑related crashes spike.
Mark Ezzell, director of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, notes that “far too often, people make poor decisions that have serious and sometimes deadly consequences”.
