Congratulations to Sammy C. Aiken, who has reclaimed his seat on the Kinston City Council. His victory marks a powerful comeback — one rooted in service, resilience, and a deep love for the people of Kinston.
Aiken previously served 12 years on the council, attending 263 out of 264 mandatory meetings, missing only one due to a family emergency. His dedication to civic duty is unmatched, and his return to office is a testament to the trust the community continues to place in him.
A retired 20-year U.S. Navy veteran, Aiken has lived in Kinston for over 42 years. Though born in Eden, North Carolina, he has long called Kinston home. His public service extends beyond politics — he’s served on numerous boards and committees, always advocating for infrastructure improvements, public safety, education, and economic development.
After losing his seat in the 2023 election, Aiken didn’t step away. Instead, he listened to the community, reflected on his journey, and returned with a renewed vow: to be better than ever for the people. His campaign focused on transparency, accountability, and a commitment to elevate every voice in Kinston.
He has spoken passionately about upgrading aging infrastructure, supporting the police department’s proactive crime prevention efforts, and pushing for stronger state support in education. He’s also emphasized environmental responsibility, including energy-saving initiatives and electric vehicle readiness.
As we celebrate Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to Councilman Aiken for his decades of military service and his continued dedication to public life. His leadership is appreciated — and his sacrifice honored.
But with that honor comes responsibility. We will hold him accountable, just as we hold all elected officials. The people of Kinston deserve transparency, action, and a voice in every decision. And we trust that Councilman Aiken will meet that challenge with the same integrity that brought him back to office.
Here’s to Councilman Sammy C. Aiken — may this new chapter be filled with progress, unity, and the kind of leadership that inspires generations to come.
