A small Mississippi community is grieving after a horrific act of violence left six people dead across three different locations in Clay County. Investigators say the killings were carried out by 24‑year‑old Daricka Moore, who is now in custody and facing murder charges.

Authorities say the rampage unfolded in the rural community of Cedarbluff, just outside West Point. Deputies responded to multiple scenes where they discovered victims who were shot and killed — including Moore’s own father, brother, uncle, and a 7‑year‑old child, who was identified as his cousin. Two additional adults, including a local pastor and the pastor’s brother, were also killed in the spreePOLITICO.

Sheriff Eddie Scott described the situation as one of the worst tragedies the county has ever seen. He confirmed that Moore was arrested after a police roadblock and is now facing first‑degree murder charges, which prosecutors say will be upgraded to capital murder as the investigation continues.

Officials say the shootings appear to be connected by family ties, though the exact motive remains unclear. Investigators believe the violence began at one home and spread to two others as Moore moved from location to location during the attack.

District Attorney Scott Colom called the killings “the worst case he has seen in a decade,” emphasizing the devastating impact on the families and the entire community.

This tragedy has shaken Clay County to its core. Six lives — including a child — were taken in a matter of minutes. Families are shattered. A community is grieving. And Mississippi is once again left searching for answers in the aftermath of senseless violence.
